Born into sharecropping, Mike spent the first six years of his life working alongside his family picking cotton . Those early years taught him the value of hard work, perseverance, humility, and faith long before he ever stepped onto a football field or into a boardroom. That foundation led Mike to opportunities that once seemed impossible. His dedication and determination earned him a Division I football scholarship to the University of Oklahoma, where he developed the discipline, leadership, and resilience that would shape every season of his life. Following his collegiate career, Mike achieved another lifelong dream by playing professional football in both the National Football League (NFL) and the United States Football League (USFL).
After football, Mike built an executive leadership career spanning more than 45 years, leading organizations, mentoring future leaders, and helping businesses grow through integrity, servant leadership, and a commitment to excellence. Whether on the field, in the corporate world, or in ministry, Mike has always believed that leadership is about influence, character, and serving others.
Mike has been married to his high school sweetheart, Jackie Weddington, for more than 45 years. Together they have built a Christ-centered marriage rooted in faith, commitment, and unconditional love. Their relationship has been a living example of the principles Mike now teaches, demonstrating that strong leadership always begins at home.
The Weddington family shares a unique legacy of excellence. Mike, his daughter, and his son have all competed as NCAA Division I student-athletes, each pursuing excellence in both athletics and academics.
Their daughter earned a Division I basketball scholarship to the University of Kansas, where she excelled on the court while preparing for a successful professional career. She earned in Bachelors degree in Communications, and a Master's degree in Journalism and now works for Intuit.
Their son, Christian Weddington, is a Division I track and field athlete at Fordham University while pursuing a Master's degree in Strategic Marketing Communications. Alongside his athletic career, Christian has built a successful career in marketing, brand strategy, and digital storytelling, using his platform to inspire others through authentic storytelling and leadership.
Today, Mike brings together the lessons of a lifetime through MWCG Ministry.
